FIRST
OBSERVATION REPORT
In my case I had the opportunity to be in the advanced
level. I have to be sincere I really liked the way the teacher taught because
his attitude was very positive; he was all the time enthusiastic, able to
answer any question or to clarify any
doubt. He tried to have an environment in which students were comfortable. This
caused a positive effect on the group of students because all of them were
always participating all the time, I could see that they did not feel ashamed
or shy. As a result they were always participating. Also the group is very
active, but the group is very big, it has twenty six students. So it is
difficult for the teacher to develop activities especially when the group
receives classes in a classroom that is too small. The day that I went to make
the observation, they were in that classroom that it’s too small, and at the
time to develop the activities provided by the teacher they were too close. In
that classroom is very difficult to arrange the desks in a different way, they
were in rows. It is difficult to have a different seating arrangement. They did
not have enough space to move around. Another point that caught my attention
was the way the teacher corrected the mistakes when they were doing an
activity. He was always monitoring the students when they were doing the
activities and taking notes of the mistakes, then he let them to finish. After
the students finished the activities, the teacher corrected the mistakes but in
a general way without pointing at someone.
This way of correcting mistakes is very good because
students did not feel ashamed that others criticize them of committing a
mistake. The teacher developed some role plays in which students had the
opportunity to express their ideas. The teacher used eye contact with the
students, and I guess that provides the students confidence because the teacher
demonstrated that he manage the different topics that he taught. He used a warm
up in order to provide feedback of the previous class. So I can say that I
really like that class because in every activity that students were performing,
they always were participating and there were more students talk time then teacher talk time which is the main
purpose at this level.
