Third Period



The Last Class of the Period


The class was on Thusrday 16th
 



In my last class I had to teach grammar. That day I was supposed to make practice about the topic ´´Passive Voice´´, but at the end I had to introduce the topic. As a warm up I had prepared some pieces of paper in which were written parts of sentences that students had to put them in order. So I divided the class in three groups and then I read the sentences, so they had to paste them on the board in right order. Some of these sentences were in active or passive voice. After that I explained the uses of the passive voice and the way we have to use in some of the tenses. What I tried to do was to provide examples which were easy for the students to understand. Some of the students knew about the topic and was easy for them to develop the other activities.


After I explained the grammar part I asked them to pass to the front and to take a piece of paper which had a verb and some words, they were asked to create a sentence with those words. So we all together checked those sentences.  Then I asked them to complete some sentences using the passive voice. After they completed the sentences they shared their answers with a classmate. Then I asked them to provide me those answers. I felt good because most of them did it good. As a last activity I wrote on the board some words and some verbs, but first I provided an example about how to create a sentence using those words.  This time I couldn’t have enough time to develop more activities because of the grammar explanation, but I really enjoyed this experience!!!

Third Period




Second Class of the Period

The class was on Thursday 9th

To start the class I used the famous ´´Hot Potatoe´´ as a warm up, students had to pass it as the music as I played the music. The one that got it when the music stopped had to create a sentence with verbs that I had written on some pieces of paper. The verbs that I included in this activity were related to topic that I had to teach. The topic was gerunds and infinitives, so those verbs were the ones that take both gerunds and infinitives. And also verbs followed by objects. Then I explained the grammar part.


After that I had a song, I brought some copies with the lyrics, so they had to complete the missing part. Later I gave them some minutes to share the answers with a classmate, and then we checked them all together. The next activity was a practice I gave them some and they had to complete them with either a gerund or an infinitive. I gave them some minutes to do it, so then we checked them together. The next activity was a short video from a famous movie it was ´´Legally Blond´´.They had to watch it and then I provided some items that they had to complete according to the information presented in the movie segment. This time I did not feel nervous as the previous class the only thing is that at the end I did not have enough time to develop the last activity. It was a role play as they watch the movie they had to perform the same roles as in the movie. They had to work in groups of three, student A was a lawyer, student B was a defendant and student C was a judge. But despite the situation some of the students who performed the role play did it very well.

Third Period



My first class of the period


On Thursday 3rd I had my first class of the period with the Intermediate course.



At the beginning of the class I was kind of nervous, but later I felt more comfortable. This time I did not have to teach grammar, the class was based only on practice about what they studied the previous class. The topic was modal verbs. As a warm up I made the famous game ´´Broken Telephone´´. Then I read some sentences and they had to tell me if they were right or not. If they were wrong they provided the right sentences. After that I brought them a song which has some of the modal verbs that they were studying. I also provided them some questions regarding to the song, it was like a mini quiz about it. 
They had to choose the right answer so it helped them to practice the topic, this activity was individually. After that I divided the class in two groups, I prepared some sentence strips so that they could paste them on the board in the right order while they were listening to the song, I really liked the activity because I could see them very concentrated on the activity. And some of them were very encourage doing it because they already knew the song.  So as a final task I asked them to perform a mini role play with one of their classmates, I had two different situations for them in which I consider they could apply some of the modal verbs.

In the first situation student A was a customer in a restaurant, and students B was a waiter or a waitress who had to take the customer´s order.
In the second situation student A was a doctor and student B was a patient who had a terrible pain, so he/she went to visit the doctor in order get some medicine to relief the pain.  
Because of time some of the students could not perform the role play. But as we know nothing is perfect, I faced some situations in the class. Most of the students were very participative but some others at the time to develop the activities were sitting on their desk and using their cell phones. But what I did was to ask them in kind way to stand up and help their classmates to do the activities. But despite those things I can say that I enjoy the class!!!
